Before you apply, you must read our Volunteer Information Package.

The information package contains our expectations of our volunteers, the benefits you receive, and information regarding the department(s) in which you wish to volunteer. You are responsible for knowing all of the information contained within the package.

Volunteers will be chosen after the deadline for this application, and every applicant will be emailed with the results of our decision once the application deadline has been met. We can’t wait to have you as a part of our community!

Volunteers are required to work at least four hours for the duration of the festival. This might change closer to the date of the event based on the number of volunteers we recruit and how they are scheduled.  Volunteer hours may be fulfilled not just during the convention, but prior and after our operating hours.  We will need volunteers for both set-up and shut-down of the event itself as well as special areas included at Nishikaze such as our Marketplace.

What Do Volunteers Do?
  • Help out at Admission
  • Assist with the sales table
  • Help with the running of our video track
  • Help check wristbands in busy areas
  • Help out with line control
  • Assist staff with other tasks as needed

A few things you WILL NOT be doing as a Volunteer:

  • Interact with VIPs, Guests or University security

What is required to become a Volunteer?

  • You must be at least 16 years of age by the time of this year’s con
  • You must attend Volunteer Orientation. This is mandatory!
  • Have a minimum of 4 hours of time to dedicate to volunteering

Staff Positions

We are currently looking for volunteers for the following staff positions. All Staff must be minimum 18 years of age or older. These positions are not part of the Nishikaze Organization Committee (NOC), but are key positions that need to be filled in order for the successful operation of the festival. Admission Coordinators – 2 Positions Available

This position will be responsible for the set-up, operation, and shut-down of our Admission Desk. You will work with the NOC, specifically Human Resources, prior to the festival to ensure everything that is required to operate the desk is available. You will be leading other volunteers throughout the day.


Volunteer Departments

Admission

Duties: Collect admission; collect merchandise sales; provide information
Preferred Skills: Personable, cashier/sales experience an asset

Individuals in this area are responsible for admitting the patrons of Nishikaze. Duties include ensuring that admission is paid by patrons at the registration desk, a complete registration form is filled out, and can sometimes also be a general information booth. Individuals must be responsible and have good customer service skills.

General

Duties: Fill-in for missing A/V, runners
Preferred Skills: Willingness to help, open to almost any task

For those who are not too sure where to start, this is a good place! While not assigned to any particular area, you may be asked to fill-in as needed such as at the registration desk, for AWOL projectionists or runners for HQ.

Programming

Duties: Runs screening rooms; checks wristbands/ID; head counts
Preferred Skills: Personable, punctual, command attention

In this department, individuals will be operating the viewing rooms for Nishikaze and its patrons. This generally includes starting the viewing programs for the selected room and ensuring that viewings run smoothly.

Safety

Duties: Secures Marketplace and Artist Alley prior, during, and after; Enforces weapons policy
Preferred Skills: Personable, friendly, command attention
Requirement: Minimum 18 years of age or older

The most important task of this department is to make sure that everyone is safe and everything runs smoothly. In the past, we have had minor accidents and it takes away from the enjoyment of the convention for everyone. As such we need to make sure that everyone at the convention stays safe. We will also require you’re help in this area in regards to enforcing the Nishikaze Convention Policies (especially the ones in relation to our weapons usage)

Note: Safety will undergo further screening to ensure suitability for the position.
